Compassion As Competence: PROFESSIONAL AND COMMUNITY TRAINING
Ethical Practices, Coaching, and Living Alongside for the Transgender and Gender Expansive Community
Compassion As Competence is an interactive recovery-centered training designed to help people move beyond good intentions and develop the practical skills needed to support transgender and gender expansive people with greater confidence, respect, curiosity, and ethical awareness.
Compassion matters. But in professional settings, compassion also requires knowledge, self-awareness, communication skills, appropriate boundaries, and the willingness to keep learning.
This 3 hour in person or virtual training helps participants examine how assumptions, language, systems, power, culture, and professional practice can affect the experiences of transgender and gender expansive people. Rather than focusing on memorizing the “right” language or avoiding mistakes, Compassion As Competence teaches participants how to respond thoughtfully, repair when needed, ask better questions, and create environments where people are treated with dignity. It’s interactive and we leave lots of space for questions, conversations and deepening connections beyond what we know currently.
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is moving with compassion, deepening competence, improving accountability, curiosity, and more humane care.
Who is this training for?
Compassion As Competence is designed for teams, professionals and communities whose work brings them into relationship with transgender and gender expansive people, including:
Healthcare and behavioral-health professionals
Recovery coaches and peer specialists
Fitness and wellness professionals
Social workers and helping professionals
Educators and school staff
Nonprofit and community organizations
Human services professionals
Workplace leaders and HR teams
Coaches, facilitators, and community leaders
What participants will explore
Participants will develop a stronger understanding of:
Gender identity, gender expression, and common terminology
The difference between intention and impact
Respectful and affirming communication
Pronouns, names, and identity-affirming practices
Common assumptions and unconscious bias
The role of power, systems, and professional responsibility
How stigma and invalidation can affect trust and access to support
Ethical boundaries and scope of practice
How to respond when mistakes happen
How to replace defensiveness with curiosity
Creating safer and more affirming environments
Supporting autonomy, dignity, and self-determination
Compassion as a professional skill rather than simply a personal value
Compassion is more than kindness.
Being kind does not automatically make a person competent.
Competence requires us to recognize what we do not know, understand how our actions affect others, and develop the skills necessary to serve people whose experiences may be different from our own.
A Reiki session is a gentle, restorative energy-healing experience designed to support relaxation, grounding, energetic balance, and reconnection with yourself.
Sessions are available in person or by distance, allowing you to receive Reiki wherever you are most comfortable. Distance Reiki is based on the understanding that energetic connection is not limited by physical proximity and can offer the same intentional space for rest, reflection, and receiving.
During your session, I use Usui Reiki practices to work with the body’s energetic system, creating space to release what feels heavy, settle the nervous system, and reconnect with your own inner resources. You do not need to believe anything specific, achieve a certain state, or “do” anything during the session. You are invited simply to receive.
My approach is trauma-aware, LGBTQ+ affirming, anti-oppressive, and consciousness-driven. Reiki sessions are offered as a complementary wellness practice and can be especially supportive during times of transition, recovery, grief, stress, identity exploration, emotional overload, or personal transformation.
Your session may include grounding, intention-setting, energetic clearing, chakra-focused work, quiet reflection, and time afterward to process anything you noticed or experienced.
Available in person or by distance. Come as you are. Rest, receive, and reconnect with the wisdom already within you.
Reiki is a complementary wellness practice and is not a substitute for medical, psychiatric, or mental health care.
Transformation Package
The Transformation Package is a supportive, holistic coaching experience for people who are ready to create meaningful change with clarity, accountability, and intention.
This work is grounded in trauma-aware, anti-oppressive, consciousness-driven leadership coaching. That means we look not only at your goals, habits, and decisions, but also at the systems, conditioning, identities, relationships, and lived experiences that shape how you move through the world.
Transformation is not about becoming a more acceptable version of yourself. It is about developing the awareness, self-trust, and internal leadership to make choices that are more aligned with who you actually are.
Over the course of 4 one-on-one coaching sessions, we will work together to identify what is keeping you stuck, clarify what you want next, and create realistic steps toward change. Coaching may explore boundaries, relationships, recovery, identity, leadership, life transitions, nervous-system awareness, purpose, self-advocacy, or the ways oppressive systems and social conditioning have influenced how you see yourself and your possibilities.
You’ll also receive 1 energy healing or intuitive support session of your choice — Reiki, guided meditation, or a tarot card reading — offering additional space for reflection, grounding, insight, and integration.
Between sessions, you’ll have access to unlimited text check-ins for encouragement, reflection, accountability, and support as you put what we discuss into practice. You’ll also receive personalized goal-setting, grounding tools, reflection prompts, and integration support based on what is most useful for you.
My approach is trauma-aware, LGBTQ+ affirming, recovery-supportive, anti-oppressive, and rooted in the belief that personal transformation and conscious leadership are deeply connected. As we become more aware of ourselves, our conditioning, our power, and our impact, we become better equipped to lead our own lives — and to show up differently in our relationships, workplaces, families, and communities.
Includes:
4 one-on-one coaching sessions
1 energy healing or intuitive support session

Recovery In Motion
Recovery In Motion is an 7.5 hour dynamic, movement-based recovery training experience designed for fitness, wellness, healthcare, peer support, and recovery professionals who want to better understand how recovery and movement are related.
This consciousness-driven training blends recovery coaching principles, movement, mindfulness, and embodied learning to create a practical and deeply human approach to supporting people in recovery. Participants explore how movement can support emotional regulation, social justice frameworks, living courageously and confident, understanding identity, and resilience while learning how to create spaces that are more recovery-supportive, inclusive, and responsive to the whole person.
Recovery In Motion is grounded in multiple pathways to recovery, harm reduction, trauma-aware practice, and anti-oppressive, consciousness-driven leadership. Rather than treating recovery as a single prescribed process, participants learn to recognize the many ways people heal, reconnect with themselves, and build sustainable lives.
The experience combines CCAR Recovery Coach Basics, guided reflection and meditation, and Dance Magic movement practices to help participants move beyond intellectual understanding and into embodied awareness. You do not need to be a dancer, fitness professional, or person in recovery to participate. Movement is used as a tool for exploration, connection, nervous-system regulation, and learning—not performance.
Recovery In Motion explores:
Recovery coaching fundamentals and the role of a recovery coach
Multiple pathways to recovery
Harm reduction and person-centered support
The connection between movement, nervous-system regulation, and recovery
How shame, stigma, oppression, and social conditioning can affect recovery
Creating affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities
Boundaries, self-awareness, and conscious leadership
Using movement and mindfulness as tools for grounding and connection
Supporting people without trying to fix, diagnose, or control them
Bringing recovery-supportive practices into fitness, wellness, healthcare, and community spaces
Who is it for?
Recovery In Motion is designed for wellness practitioners, fitness professionals, personal trainers, group fitness instructors, health coaches, medical professionals, peer support specialists, recovery coaches, behavioral health professionals, community leaders, and any organizations that want to better support people affected by substance use, mental health challenges, understanding how systems and recovery are related.
It is especially valuable for professionals who regularly work with people in recovery but have never been formally taught how to recognize recovery needs, reduce stigma, or create environments where people can feel safe enough to reconnect with their bodies. We don’t drag ourselves or people down pathways we don’t want to go. We live curious, courageous and compassionately.
More than a training
Recovery In Motion is not simply about learning information about recovery. It is an opportunity to examine how we lead, how we create community, and how our own assumptions influence the spaces we hold for other people.
Participants leave with practical recovery coaching tools, embodied strategies they can immediately integrate into their work, and a deeper understanding of how movement can become medicine, connection can become intervention, and compassionate leadership can become part of recovery itself.
Recovery does not only happen in treatment rooms. It happens in gyms, studios, workplaces, community centers, families, and wherever people are given the opportunity to reconnect with themselves.
Bring Recovery In Motion to your organization, team, conference, or community.
